College Football Week 7 - Power 5 Conference Best Bets

As we pass the midway point of the college football season, we are getting to the heart of the conference battles. While the playoffs are still in the minds of a number of teams, the reality is that they probably won’t get there without winning the conference first.

As we always do each week of the season, we are going to be taking a look at the top games in each of the Power 5 Conferences, whilst also making a prediction or two in hopes of helping you boost your bankroll ahead of the second half of the season with all odds, props and futures are sponsored by

Pittsburgh Panthers at Notre Dame Fighting Irish

While it is usually the Power 5 teams who make it to the playoffs, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have an opportunity to buck that trend as an independent. They come into Week 7 with a perfect record and are sitting in the #5 spot, just waiting for one of the top 4 teams to slip up. In order to keep pace, the Irish will need to hoist an ACC opponent in the form of the Pittsburgh Panthers.

The Irish are in as a 21-point favorite here and will be looking to handle the Panthers the way that another top team, the Penn State Nittany Lions, did earlier this season in a 51-6 blowout. Look for Notre Dame to win here, but the spread is going to be close. I think the Irish just creep over it to cover.

Big 12
Baylor Bears at Texas Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns are suddenly back in the playoff picture after taking out the Oklahoma Sooners last week in a thrilling Red River Showdown. They have an easier go of things this week, but they cannot afford to let down as a 14-point favorite over the Baylor Bears.

The Longhorns dropped 48 on the Sooners last week and they may need to get up there again versus a Bears team that know the way to the end zone. I think Texas may fall just short of covering here, but I do like the OVER 60 ½ in this game.

Big Ten
Wisconsin Badgers at Michigan Wolverines

A pair of ranked teams go head to head in a Big ten Conference match-up, with both teams in desperate need of a win. Given the Badgers strength of schedule, their playoff hopes have already almost certainly been dashed with a loss.

The Wolverines lost in the opening week of the season, but since that one came against Notre Dame, they are still alive, although a loss here would spell the end of any playoff hopes. Michigan are an 8 ½ point home favorite here and I like them to win and cover.

PAC 12
Washington Huskies at Oregon Ducks

This may well prove to be the game that decided the PAC 12 North Division, especially if it’s Washington who come up with the win. The Ducks have already taken a loss in conference play and simply cannot afford another, while the Huskies are still unbeaten in the PAC 12.

This is one of the games of the week and the bookies have this one as being very tight, with Washington in as a 3-point favorite. I am going to stick with the SU play here and take the Huskies.

Georgia Bulldogs at LSU Tigers

As is so very often the case, it is the SEC that is delivering the game of the week. #2 ranked Georgia will head into hostile territory to face an LSU Tigers team sure to still be hurting after losing to Florida last week and dropping out of the top 5.

Georgia have a brutal schedule ahead of them over the next few weeks, a run that will decide their conference and playoff fates. The Dawgs are in as a 7 ½ point favorite here and I am going to take them to win and cover.
