NFL Game Props - Carolina Panthers at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have shaken off a slow start to return to their usual spot atop their division and among the best teams in the AFC. Pittsburgh has looked good of late but it will get a big test this week when it matchups against the surging Carolina Panthers.

Carolina has won three straight games and is looking like one of the best teams in the NFC. These two teams are no strangers to success in recent years and this is lining up as a game that could come down to the wire.

It’s a quick turnaround as these teams will be playing on “Thursday Night Football.” The Steelers are at home, which makes them the favorites, but don’t be surprised to see Carolina push them all night in NFL gambling. In addition to the standard pregame wagers, there will also be a plethora of prop bets available for this primetime matchup. We will take a look at some of the most interesting ones.

This NFL football game between the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers will be held at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 8:20 p.m ET on Thursday, November 8th, 2018. The game will be nationally televised on FOX and NFL Network.

We'll have NFL football odds at available for every game of the 2018 NFL season.

Odds Analysis

The Steelers are listed at 3-point favorites to win this matchup, which is down a half-point from earlier in the week. The oddsmakers and betting public both believe the talent in this matchup is about even, with the home field helping Pittsburgh’s odds. The Steelers are -170 favorites on the moneyline while the Panthers are the +148 underdog to pull the upset. The scoring total is listed at 52 points.

One of the more intriguing prop bets asks which team will score first, with the Steelers the -140 favorite. That seems high but the oddsmakers may be banking on the likelihood of Pittsburgh receiving the ball to begin the game. The Panthers are the +110 underdogs and sure seem like the better choice.

There is even -115 odds on whether or not there will be a score within the first six minutes of this game. Both offenses have the ability to pick up yards in chunks, which is why the “yes” option is the better choice.

The longest touchdown of the game prop bet is set at 48.5 yards. Both Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Panthers quarterback Cam Newton like taking their shots downfield. There will be a lot of playmakers on this field and the “over” is a good choice for this prop bet.

There is always an interesting prop bet which asks which player is going to score the first touchdown. Pittsburgh wide receiver Antonio Brown and Steelers running back James Conner are the co-favorites to hit paydirt first at +500. Conner has been great this season in place of Le’Veon Bell and is a worthy option, but it seems smarter to go with more of an underdog pick.

Newton has the ability to score with his legs, and his odds for getting into the end zone are listed at +1000. That is a worthy bet, because if the Panthers get close to the goal-line Newton will be a serious option running it in, either on a designed play or a scramble.

The Panthers’ scoring total is listed at 24.5 points for this one. The Steelers’ total is listed at 27.5. Carolina’s number looks accurate but Pittsburgh’s seems high. The Panthers have some talented players on defense and should be able to keep the Steelers below that mark.

The “under” on Pittsburgh’s scoring total is the best prop bet option in this game. Even though the “over” has been common when it comes to scoring this season, the oddsmakers went too high with this one in NFL odds.

NFL ATS Pick: Pittsburgh Steelers “under” 27.5 points against the Carolina Panthers
