In the Crease - Week 10

Streaky Teams
Wins and Losses Streak Over/Under Streak
Boston 6-2 past eight games overall Buffalo Under 10-3-1 past 14 games overall
Montreal 5-1 past six games overall N.Y. Islanders Over 9-1-1 past 11 games overall
Ottawa 1-8 past nine games overall N.Y. Rangers Over 12-4-1 past 17 games overall

Tough Prey
The Nashville Predators have caught fire and ascended to the perch in the Central Division with a 13-2-1 mark over the past 16 games. Their only regulation losses since Nov. 1 have come in Minnesota on Nov. 16, and an inexplicable setback Nov. 30 against Vancouver. Win or lose the Predators are lighting the lamp frequently, posting three or more goals in six straight games, and 15 of the past 16 contests. Things are going so well lately that even backup Juuse Saros, just recalled from Milwaukee of the AHL, stepped up and posted a career-high in saves on Tuesday in Dallas.

Bedeviled
Not many talking heads predicted that the New Jersey Devils would be winning and in first place at any point, particularly into early December. But the Devils find themselves with 36 points, one ahead of the Blue Jackets, two ahead of the Islanders, and three ahead of the Capitals and Penguins, while maintaining a four-point lead on the Rangers in the ultra-competitve Metropolitan Division. It's funny, but a couple of losses in the Metro can send a team spiraling to the bottom of the division, while a couple of wins can help them gain separation. It's the Devils doing well on the road, going 10-3-1-1, which has helped them ascend.

Looking Ahead

Wednesday, December 6

The Blackhawks and Capitals do battle in the nation's capital, and one of the teams have had their problems lately. Chicago has won 10 of their past 12 games against Metropolitan Division teams, but they're 6-13 across their past 19 games on the road, and a dismal 3-14 over the past 17 against teams with a winning record. They're also 1-8 in their past nine on the road against teams with a home winning percentage over .600. For the Capitals, they have pieced it together with five wins over the past six outings, while going 14-5 over their past 19 games against Central Division clubs. They are also on fire at home lately, going 37-14 in the past 51 at home. The Caps have had their way with the 'Hawks lately, too, winning six of the past seven overall in this series, and six straight in D.C. The home team has won eight times in the past 10 in this series.

The Flames skate into Toronto on fumes, as they look to cool off the Leafs. The Flames have won just twice over their past seven, and they're 5-12 over the past 17 against teams with a winning record. Calgary has struggled on Wednesdays, too, for what it's worth, dropping seven of their past eight Hump Day contests. Toronto has won nine of their past 13 games overall, but they're just 4-10 over their past 14 at the Air Canada Centre against teams with a winning road mark. The Flames haven't done well in Toronto, however, winning just three of the past 16 trips to the Center of the Hockey Universe.

Thursday, December 7
The Islanders have won eight of their past 11 games, and they head into the Steel City looking to vanquish the Penguins. It's something they haven't had a lot of success doing lately. The Isles are 17-36 over their past 53 meetings, and 7-22 in their past 29 trips to Pittsburgh. The Pens have won four of their past five overall, and they're an outstanding 43-14 across their past 57 games at home. They have also won 49 of their past 70 games inside the Metropolitan Division. The Islanders are also playing in the third game in four days, and they're 3-7 in their past 10 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation.

The Stars and Blues tangle on the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Louis, and both teams are looking to maintain their upward trajectory. The Stars have been especially solid, winning five of their past six outings, including a 4-1 mark across their past five against teams with a winning record and 5-1 over the past six against Western Conference foes. However, they have won just 17 times over the past 54 on the road, and they're 5-13 in their past 18 road games against teams with a home winning percentage over .600. The Blues have won 11 of their past 16 at home, and they're an impressive 39-19 across the past 58 games overall. Total bettors will like the 'over' in this game. The over is 7-1-3 in the past 11 meetings in this series, and 4-0-2 in the past six in St. Louis. Dallas has had trouble in St. Louis, however, going just 2-7 in the past nine trips to Missouri.

Friday, December 1
The Golden Knights make their first foray into the Music City, as they look to slay another top opponent. But Vegas is just 6-7-0-1 on the road, as opposed to their impressive 11-2-0-0 mark at home. The Predators are also 11-2-0-1 at home this season, so Vegas might actually look like an expansion club, which has been a rarity this season. Nashville has scored at least two goals in all 14 of their home games this season, win or lose. Vegas will be a big challenge, however, as they're averaging 3.2 goals per game across their past 10 road outings.

Saturday, December 2
The Blues and Red Wings battle in matinee action at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The 'under' has cashed in five of the past eight road games for St. Louis. The 'under' also cashed in both meetings between these teams last week, as the two sides could muster just five total goals across the two meetings. The under is also 8-1 in the past nine meetings overall in this series, including a perfect 5-0 in the past five battles in Motown. Of course, all five of those meetings were at Joe Louis Arena and not the new barn.

The Jets have the most goals (entering Wednesday) in the Western Conference, while the Lightning are tied for the most goals in the NHL (101). You can expect a high-scoring affair on the Suncoast on Saturday night. That's why Winnipeg's 5-1 loss in Detroit on Tuesday night was shocking, as they had scored 12 goals over their past two outings, both at home. On the road they're averaging just 1.0 goals per game over their past three on the road, while averaging 6.0 GPG over their past four at home. This game is on the road, so perhaps the 'over' isn't such a slam dunk play. The 'over' has hit in five of Tampa Bay's past six games at home.
